SWANWICK LAKES

Lovely visit to one of the most beautiful parts of Sarisbury Ward today. Amazing what an industrial landscape can become when nature takes over. A great support from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust who have worked with the council for many years ever since Fareham Borough Council negotiated the original agreement with NATS

Well worth a visit especially as social distancing is easy in such a vast area.

HORSE & JOCKEY STEPS UP TO HELP

I was contacted by one of the owners of The Horse & Jockey country pub &. Restaurant at Curbridge, Tony Lynam recently who wanted to know how they could help in the fight against corronavirus while closed. Following a lot of thought Tony decided that they would provide fresh hot meals free of charge to NHS and emergency services staff working on the front line.

The initiative launched on Sunday night and the guaranteed socially-distanced photo shows South Central Ambulance Service staff Hannah Wise, Chrissy Jenkins and Julia Blake receiving their meals after their busy shift. If you are working in our emergency services please just give them a call on 01489-796654 to book your meal which will be served daily between 5pm and 9pm.

Thank you to Tony and the whole team for what you are doing at this difficult time. If any local business would like to donate any fresh produce to help make these delicious meals please do get in touch.

FAREHAM BOROUGH COUNCIL MAKES HISTORY

Fareham Borough Council has today made its first ever decision using online technology. The ‘virtual’ decision was taken as part of a meeting held using Microsoft Teams to consider the Council’s recommendation to write off £130,000 of irrecoverable debt.

The Council’s philosophy in these challenging times is for democratically elected Members to continue to be involved in the decision-making process as much as possible rather than relying on officers to take decisions using emergency powers.

Today was a first for the Council. As Executive Member for Policy and Resources I agreed with the Officer’s recommendation to write off a significant amount of debt as there is no further legal action that can be taken to collect it. This decision will help the Council to maintain accurate and healthy budgets, something which is even more important than usual in the current climate.
